David Grant Thompson, Jr. of Battle Lake, Minnesota entered into his Savior’s embrace on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at the age of 71 after a year-long struggle with gliosarcoma. He passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving family.
David was born on August 19, 1949 in Minneapolis to David and Dorothy (Stuebe) Thompson. He and his siblings called the shores of Lake Johanna home, inspiring a life-long love of the outdoors. He attended Mounds View High (’68) where he met his bride, Georgia (Pierson). They both went on to attend the University of Minnesota where David played intramural hockey and double majored in Business and Transportation. He and Georgia were married in September 1973, having graduated earlier that year.
Working in the oil and gas industry took the couple to Omaha and eventually to Texas, where they settled and raised their two sons, David III and Kyle, in The Woodlands. Over the course of his career, he worked for Northern Propane, Koch, Pyrofax Gas, and Panhandle Eastern, which became Duke Energy, serving in both vice- and presidential roles. After retiring in 2000, he was able to indulge in his true passions: fishing and golf, proudly scoring a hole-in-one in 2017. Every year David would eagerly look forward to opening fishing weekend on Otter Tail Lake, spent with his brother, Mark. He was also very involved at St. John’s in Ottertail, serving as lead usher and as an elder over the course of ten years.
He is survived by his wife, Georgia; their sons, David of Seattle, WA and Kyle (Brock) Pisciotta of Los Angeles, CA; his siblings Anne Lever of Savage, Jennifer Schuett of Aitkin, and Mark (Joan) of Austin; his sisters-in-law Diane (Lee) Sherman of Ottertail and Yvonne Huberty of Blaine; and his thirteen nieces and nephews.
