David Lee Hanes was born March 10, 1952, to Wayne and Lila (Sinkler) Hanes. As the forth of eleven children, Dave grew up in family that moved frequently before settling in Minnesota. He spent his youth working on his parents' farm, cutting firewood, and attended Bertha High School. Around this time, Dave found his true calling on the open road while hauling milk for Bertha Creamery.

On June 15, 1971, Dave married Jeannie Van Gorder. In their early years together, they lived in both Minnesota and Oregon before settling down permanently back in Minnesota. In October 1984, Dave and Jeannie moved into their forever home just outside of Wadena. To build on his passion for driving, Dave attended and graduated from Alex Technical College (1986-1987), dedicating his career to over-the-road truck driving.

Throughout his life, Dave was a talented cook who loved creating new dishes and even taught Jeannie how to bake homemade bread. He also found peace tending to their many vegetable and flower gardens. Holidays were incredibly special to Dave; he took immense pride in decorating for every occasion, always designing new displays for Christmas. In retirement, he enjoyed watching the birds and walking his dog, Queenie.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Lila Hanes; his infant daughter, Wendy Hanes; his sisters, Cheryl Mann and Laurie Beedle; and his brother, Lyle Hanes.

His memory will be lovingly cherished by his wife of 54 years, Jeannie Hanes, along with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren: Tina Klimek, her children Howard, Lori, Jonathan (Shelby Erickson), Michelle, and Bobbie Jo, and great-grandchildren Bentley, Chevy, and Novaleigh; Penny Hanes (Justin Olson), their children Ashley (Chris Brammer), McKenna, Wayne, Tyler, and Kaylei, and great-granddaughter Alexis; Richard Hanes (Kelly Hanes), and their children Holly (Alexander Hanes), David, Tristan, and Alexander Hamilton; and Dwayne Hanes (Courtney Hanes), and their children Jade, Michael, Clarabella, Mara, and Daniel.

Dave is also survived by his siblings: Karol Kruger, Marcie Gamber, Nancy Hanes, Karen Hanes, Paulette Hanes, Daniel Hanes (Tracy), and Everett Hanes…along with a large, loving community of extended family and lifelong friends.
