David “Dave” John Brutlag was born on April 25, 1956, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to the late Kenneth and Viola (Lueders) Brutlag, and shortly after moved to Henning where Dave attended school and graduated in 1974. He then attended Concordia College, Moorhead, where he obtained a physical education degree and met the love of his life, Nancy Gabrielsen. Dave returned to his hometown of Henning after taking over his father’s grocery store, and on July 15, 1979, Dave and Nancy united in marriage. Their marriage was blessed with two children: Travis (Karla) Brutlag and Kristin (Donny) Wilcox, and two grandchildren: Rhett and Clay Wilcox.
Dave had a special love for his Cobber family and hometown of Henning where he played an active role within the community.
After selling the grocery store, Dave was self-employed in construction, which he loved. Dave also enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting, snowmobiling, pheasant hunting, taking an annual fishing trip to Canada, golfing, and most of all being with his family.
Dave passed away unexpectedly on December 19, 2019, at the age of 63. He is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Viola Brutlag. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Nancy; children, Travis (Karla) Brutlag, Alexandria, MN, and Kristin (Donny) Wilcox, Bemidji, MN; grandchildren: Rhett and Clay Wilcox; brothers: Gerald (Jeanie) Brutlag, Grand Rapids, MN, Steve (Sally) Brutlag, Carlsbad, CA, sister, Brenda (Randy) Flicek, Eagan, MN; many relatives; and a host of friends.
