Dale Laverne Berry was born on December 3, 1933, in Richville, Minnesota. His parents were the late Fred and Edna (Fairchild) Berry. Dale grew up next to Boedigheimer Lake in Otter Tail County. He graduated from the Perham High School with the Class of 1951. His first job was cutting the square ice for the refrigerators (ice box) and taking it to Head Lake to be packed for storage. After high school Dale proudly served in the United States Army.
On September 3, 1963, Dale was united in marriage to Enid “Marlene” Malcolm. Their marriage was blessed with three children: James, Ron, and Kristi. They resided in Richville, and Dale was employed with Marks Sand and Gravel. In 1985 they made their home in Basswood. Dale worked road construction in Minneapolis for a short time and then farmed in Basswood until his retirement.
Marlene passed away on October 11, 2020, at the Hadley House in Perham, Minnesota.
On November 7, 2021, Dale passed away at the Hadley House in Perham, Minnesota at 87 years of age. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Preceding Dale in death were his parents, Fred, and Edna; and his wife, Marlene; siblings: Margie, Stanley, Kenneth, and Pearl; brothers-in-law: Clifford, Calvin, Bill, Curt, and Doug; and sisters-in-law Ester, and Patty.
Dale is survived by his sons: James (Sabine) Berry of Germany; Ron (Leslie) Berry of Richville; daughter: Kristi (Carey) Bowman of Alexandria; grandchildren: Derrick, Dylan, Dalton (Shannon) Berry, Kasey (Amber) Conklin, Ashley (Lewis) Theisen, and Kailey; great-grandchildren: Lebron, Hawken, and Arwenn; sisters-in-law: Netta Yunk of Grand Rapids and Kathy Berry of Wadena; brother-in-law, Warren (Rita) Malcolm of Grand Rapids; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
