Cindy Wischnack Obituary

Cindy Wischnack, age 60, of New York Mills, Minnesota passed away on Monday, August 25, 2025, at Essentia Health Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota with her husband by her side.

Cindy was born on October 6, 1964, to Duane and Linda Milbrandt. Cindy grew up and attended high school in New York Mills, graduating with the class of 1983. She continued her schooling at Alexandria Vo-Tech for fashion management and merchandising.

On August 19, 1989, Cindy was united in marriage to Michael “Mike” Wischnack, whom she had met while working at the Frazee Processing Plant. During their 36 years of marriage, they have lived in many locations including Fort Campbell, Kentucky, White Bear Lake, Minnesota, Fort Irwin, California, and Germany, with Mike being in the military for 21 years. Their first home was in Detroit Lakes, and when Mike retired from the Military in November of 2010, they made New York Mills their home again. While living in all of these locations Cindy had a variety of jobs. While in California and Germany Cindy worked at the Commissaries on base as the food sample lady and grocery bagger. She also worked at Kenny’s candy and Barrel of Fun being her most recent. Cindy’s favorite part of working there was keeping everyone stocked with chips and candy.

Cindy was an active member of the Zion Free Lutheran Church in Wadena. She was part of the Women’s Mission Federation (WMF) ladies group, and the secretary of church for a short period of time before getting sick. Cindy had a love for cooking and baking, especially alongside her mom, preparing for holiday gatherings. The motto was: “we don’t want anyone to go away hungry.” She had a heart of gold and loved being with people. She was a great listener. But mostly, Cindy loved her husband, Mike, and spending time with him. She cherished her family and friends and was excited for there to be a new baby joining the family in March. Cindy’s biggest little loves were her puppies, Sammy and Annabelle. They have been the most loved and spoiled puppies!

Cindy was a ray of sunshine that would light up the room with her smile and laughter. She made friends everywhere she went, as people were always drawn to her sweetness.

Preceding Cindy in death is her father, Duane Milbrandt; grandparents: Edward and Viola Milbrandt; and Loren and Eldora Coyle; and aunt, Barb Windel.

Surviving Cindy is her loving husband Mike; mother: Linda Milbrandt of Sauk Rapids; siblings: Grant (Renee) Milbrandt of Holdingford; and Greg (Linda) Milbrandt of New Prague; nieces and nephews: Kelcie (Brandon) Hellmann of Avon; Taylor (Nicole) Milbrandt of Duluth; Evan (Megan) Milbrandt of Clearwater; Sam (Katie) Milbrandt of Lonsdale; and Luke Milbrandt of Montgomery; great-nieces and nephews: Aubree, Jayden, Kylie, Miles, Brooklyn, Greyson, and Bennett; many other relatives and a host of friends.

Here are Cindy’s words of wisdom that she wanted to share with everyone:

-Everyone needs the Love of God

-Love everyone

-Forgive and have great joy

Cindy’s memory will be forever cherished by all who have known her.

On behalf of Cindy's husband Mike ~ "I want to thank everyone for their condolences, well wishes and memorials in honor of Cindy"
