Charles Elliot Peterson, age 95 of Menahga, MN, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully at Green Pine Acres Nursing Home on Friday, July 12, 2024, with his family by his side.
Charles was born on August 17, 1928, to Peter and Esther (Carlson) Peterson. He was baptized on December 2, 1928, and confirmed in June of 1943 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Menahga. Charles married Lois Hasbargen on September 3, 1952, and their marriage was blessed with seven children.
Charles was a lifelong farmer and prior to his stay at Green Pine Acres he would drive out to the farm daily, drive tractor, and even milk cows. He had a deep and abiding connection with the land. Charles was a member of the National Farmer’s Organization (NFO), served three terms on the Bethany Lutheran Church Council, and served on the Menahga School Board between the years of 1972-1978. Over his 95 years, Charles found joy in various interests including playing cards, deer hunting, snowmobiling, and attending family reunions. He loved to socialize, took a genuine interest in others, made natural connections with a wide network of friends, and was known as a talker and storyteller. Charles could always find someone to chat with, whether it was out driving on one of his local road trips or with the residents of Greenwood Connections Assisted Living.
Charles is mourned by his wife Lois of 73 years; children Karen (Tim) Paurus, Dale (Judy) Peterson, Janet (Brian) Anderson, Steve (Cindy) Peterson, Carl (Judy) Peterson, Ross (Sheryl) Peterson; daughter-in-law Terri Peterson; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; sister Ella Klingaman; sister-in-law Fern Peterson; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents Peter and Esther Peterson; son Norman, brothers Donald, David and Edward Peterson; and sister Anna (Herb) Pederson.
The family wishes to extend a gracious thank you to the staff of Green Pine Acres Nursing Home and CHI Hospice for the last year of loving care.
