Charles Fjeld Obituary

Charles “Chuck” Michael Fjeld, age 80, of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota formerly of Ham Lake, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2024, in his home under the care of his loving family and Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Charles Michael Fjeld was born on November 16, 1943, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota to Melvin and Helen (Enger) Fjeld. He was raised in Elbow Lake, MN and graduated with the class of 1961.

After graduating, Chuck moved to Minneapolis and began working for the Fanny Farmer Candy Company for two years. Charles then enlisted in the United States Navy due to the draft and served from 1963 to 1967 and was honorable discharged on August 11, 1967. He served two tours in Vietnam upon aircraft carrier USS. Kearsarge.

After discharge, Chuck moved back to Minneapolis and started working for Okens Inc, as a truck driver for three years before being promoted to food salesman. During his time as a food salesman, the company changed names to CFS Continental, then to SYSCO Foods. He was promoted to Master Marketing Associate. Chuck retired from SYSCO in 2009, after 42 years.

While working at Okens, Chuck met Eva Tupa, and they were united in marriage on March 15, 1969, at St. Timothy’s Church in Fridley, Minnesota. To this union three children were born: Jeff, Lynn and Jason.

Chuck was a proud member of Sgt John Rice VFW Post 6316 in Blaine, MN, and American Legion Post 15, in Detroit Lakes, MN.

In Chucks retirement, he enjoyed going to old car shows, visiting with family and spending time with his grandchildren.

Deeply loved, Charles’ passing will be mourned by his wife of 55 years Eva; his children: Jeff Fjeld, Lynn (Steven) Drewes, and Jason (Deann Recker) Fjeld; his four grandchildren: Lorissa (Tosh) Virk, Brianna Drewes (Dominic Steele), Ariana (Eric Thielen) Fjeld, Kyra Fjeld; step grandchildren Dylan (Kayla) Recker, Amber (Patrick) Egdorf; and his sister Helene Olson; many nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Helen, his brother David Fjeld, daughter-in-law Julie and brother-in-law Marlyn Olson.

Charles’ family would like to extend a special thank you to his dialysis nurses for the great care at Sanford Health.
