Brian James Gorentz, 55, of New York Mills, Minnesota, passed away on December 23, 2025. He was born on November 2, 1970, in Minneapolis, MN. In his younger years he attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School and also attended High School in Pelican rapids, MN where he participated in wrestling. Throughout his life, he resided in various locations, including the State of Washington; Fargo, ND; Vergas, MN; Perham, MN and New York Mills, MN.
Over the years Brian managed residential complexes in Washington State. He also did maintenance at Petro Shopping Centers in Fargo, ND for many years. While living and working in Fargo, he also maintained the RRVF Race Track and got to know Tony Stewart, Danny, and Donny Schatz on a personal level. This was something that he was proud of and took pride in. He moved back to the Perham/Vergas area where his final place of employment was at RDO in Perham, MN. As a skilled mechanic, Brian dedicated his life to repairing and maintaining a wide range of equipment to his very last days.
For those who knew Brian, knew he was “The Guy Who Could Fix it All”. He was happiest with his hands busy and a new challenge ahead. Brian would spend his days working on tractors and machinery, and any other project that he would come across. He thoroughly enjoyed participating in the Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion in Rollag, MN. This event was one of the places where he felt a deep sense of belonging. Above all, Brian cherished his family. He left a mark on those around him and he will be deeply missed by so many. He will always be remembered for his robust personality, keen sense of humor, and willingness to lend a helping hand. Brian was someone who could effortlessly make anyone laugh. He possessed a sharp sense of humor and a stubborn, but compassionate heart. Although he did not always take the easy path, he did things his way – with determination, grit, and authenticity.
Brian is survived by his significant other, Christine Heron; Siblings, Dana (Pamela) Conley of Florence, SC; Seana Magnano; and Julie (Justin Scott) Tilly; Children, Tasha Gorentz of Bottineau, ND; Dylan Spenst of Bottineau, ND; Ashton Gorentz (Cassandra Hill) of Fargo, ND; and Cody Gorentz of Wahpeton, ND; Grandchildren, Caiden Gorentz and Ennis Nordmark; and was an uncle to many. He is preceded in death by his Father, Gerald Gorentz; Mother, Della Gorentz and his Daughter, Amber Gorentz; Mother of Caiden Gorentz.
Brian was the kind of guy you could rely on, someone who would show up when it mattered. We will always remember the sound of his laughter, the sight of him working on something he loved, and the feeling of knowing he was always there when you needed him. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever. He will never be forgotten.
A Celebration of Brian's life will be held at the DLCCC in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11th, 2026.
