Beverly Margaret Elizabeth (Johnson) Hagel was born on August 4, 1935, to Toivo and Signe (Noponen) Johnson. She attended School Districts 125 and 105 and graduated from New York Mills High School with the Class of 1953. Following high school, Beverly worked at several banks in Minneapolis.
On July 18, 1970, Beverly was united in marriage to Donald Hagel at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in New York Mills. Their marriage was blessed with three daughters: Lisa, Donna, and Rebecca.
Beverly was employed at the Wadena State Bank before beginning a long and dedicated career at the New York Mills Credit Union, where she worked until her retirement in 2000. She also faithfully served for many years as clerk for the Newton Township Board. Beverly had a deep interest in genealogy and took great pride in researching her family history, which led her to connect with—and even travel to visit—relatives in Finland. In her leisure time, she enjoyed flower gardening, reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and traveling throughout the United States and Europe.
Beverly passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Vitality Living in New York Mills, Minnesota, at the age of 90. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Toivo and Signe Johnson.
Beverly is survived by her loving husband, Donald Hagel; her daughters, Lisa Lindberg (Rick), Donna Hagel, and Rebecca Hagel (Margaret Izsak); her grandchildren, Dan Lindberg, Brian Lindberg (Taylour Blakeman), JaNae Hagel, Bailey Sweeney (Mick), and Zane Penrod; and her great-grandchildren, Davis, Delaney, Silas, Palmer, and Marshall.
