Betty Elaine Welter was born on March 16, 1949 in Wadena, Minnesota. Her parents were the late Ray and Elsie (Brasel) Welter. She graduated with the Class of 1967 from the New York Mills High School. After high school, Betty attended Wadena Technical College and acquired her accounting degree.
She was employed with Hick’s Wild Rice Company in Grand Rapids; Alexandria Boat Works for 3 years; Henry’s Candy Company in Perham for 2 years; then at Farmers and Merchants State Bank in New York Mills for 37 years.
Betty met Dennis on the Huntersville Trail Ride in Huntersville, Minnesota. On March 14, 1970 Betty was united in marriage to Merton Dennis Swenson at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New York Mills, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with a son, Mike.
Betty enjoyed spending time with her son, Mike and his family and volunteering for many community events. She especially loved watching her grandchildren. Betty enjoyed many motorcycle trips with Dennis and their friends. Betty loved the many dogs and horses she had in her lifetime, and enjoyed spending time in the pasture with her son, Mike and many of those dogs and horses.
On March 22, 2020 Betty passed away under hospice care at the Dobson Home in Chandler, Arizona at 71 years of age. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Preceding Betty in death were her parents; brother, Darrell “Pete” Welter; brother, Gregg.
Betty is survived by her husband, Dennis of New York Mills; son, Mike (Nina) Swenson of New York Mills; grandchildren: Dylan, Leah, Kassidy and Saige; brother, Kenneth “Bud” (Dorothy) Welter of New York Mills; sisters: Margaret “Babe” Meyer of Perham and Alvina “Fats” Mathiason of Grand Rapids; many other relatives and a host of friends.
