Obituary

Bert Norman Linder was born on November 13,1923 at the family farm in Nidaros Township to John and Mabel (Haagenson) Linder. He was baptized on December 23, 1923, at Leaf Mountain Lutheran Church.

He attended rural school district #283 until the eighth grade. He attended Sunday School and Confirmation instruction at Leaf Mountain being confirmed on September 5, 1939. After the eighth grade he continued to help on the family farm until January 1945 when he was drafted into the Army. He completed basic training at Camp Maxey in Texas. He was then shipped overseas first to Luzon, Philippines and finally to Korea in preparation for the ground invasion of Japan which did not occur because of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He rose to the rank of Corporal T5. He was discharged in December 1946.

On June 24, 1950, he married Mae Moen at Nidaros Lutheran Church. In 1951 they purchased a farm near Henning where they engaged in dairy, beef and row crops production. In 1986 they sold their farm and moved back to the family farm in Nidaros where they continued to farm and raise beef cattle. Mae passed away on September 16, 2017, after 67 years of marriage.

Bert in his youth enjoyed church activities, cross country and downhill skiing. Hunting and trapping were also a passion. In his later years he continued those activities along with snowmobiling. He and Mae enjoyed watching the crops and cattle mature. Every fall he enjoyed the gathering of extended family for the traditional duck hunting opener. He served on various church boards and was a deacon of Leaf Mountain Church where he was a lifelong member.

He is survived by his son, Brad (Cindy) Linder of Henning; son-in-law, Duane Bjerketvedt of Henning, sisters: Marian Dilly, Jane Personne both of Colorado and Shirley (Richard) Lenning of Fergus Falls, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Also preceding him is his brother and sister-in-law, Reynold (Kathy) Linder; sisters, Ruby (Art) Dunn, Pearl (Marvin) Markstom, Norma (Neal) Nelson, Thelma Linder, brother-in-law, Robert Dilly; nephews: Ronald Dilly, Joel Personne and Michael Linder.
