Bernice Beaver passed away on September 2, 2025, in Verndale, Minnesota. She was born on July 10, 1932, to John and Mayme (Lake) Salo. Raised in a Finnish-speaking household, Bernice began her education learning English as a second language. She graduated from New York Mills High School in 1950 and went on to earn a degree from the Minneapolis School of Business in 1952. Following her studies, she worked at Travelers Insurance Company.
Bernice met Donald Beaver at a baseball game, and they were married on May 4, 1958. Together they were blessed with four children. A devoted mother, she rarely missed a sporting event and was always present to cheer them on.
Throughout her life, Bernice balanced family and farm life with grace. She cooked countless meals for farmhands and family alike and often helped by picking up parts for equipment when needed. Mondays were reserved for bowling league nights—an activity she enjoyed immensely.
She also found joy in crocheting doilies, playing cards with friends and family, and watching basketball—whether it was the Minnesota Lynx, Timberwolves, or Gophers, she was an enthusiastic fan.
Bernice is preceded into death by her parents; husband Donald Beaver; son Bruce Beaver; siblings: Carol, Carl, Donny, Darwin, Alice, Howard, Doris, Ruthie, and Kenny.
Bernice is survived by her children: Gary Beaver, Craig (Brenda) Beaver, and Lori Mitchell; grandsons: Jacob & Kyle; brother, DeWane (Nancy) Salo; beloved dog Sparky; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Bernice’s life was marked by dedication to her family and community. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her.
