Barbara "Barb" Schmidt

Barbara Elaine (Crocker) Schmidt, 72, of Wadena, Minnesota passed away on Friday, November 26, 2021, at her home surrounded by her family.

Barbara Elaine Crocker was born on May 20, 1949, in Wadena, Minnesota to William “Wes” and Wilma (Schroeder) Crocker. She attended Wadena High School and graduated as part of the class of 1967. She then went on to beauty school at the Wadena Tech School graduating in 1968. After college Barbara moved to Cass Lake, Minnesota then Aitkin, Minnesota before moving back to Wadena in 1972.

On March 23, 1974, Barbara was united in marriage to Douglas Schmidt at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wadena and to this union four children were born Valerie, Joe, Amanda, and Jake.

Barbara worked as a beautician until Joe was born, when the boys were old enough, she helped them with their paper route, and then in 1994 she worked in housekeeping at Tri-County Health Care in Wadena until her retirement in June 2017.

Barbara enjoyed crossword puzzles, word finds, cards, and reading. Her family was her world, from attending her kids’ sporting events and having a New Years party for her grandkids.

Deeply loved, Barbara’s passing will be mourned by her children Valerie (Jeff) Spencer, Joe (Diane Vry) Schmidt, Amanda Schmidt, and Jake (Lisa) Schmidt, her grandchildren Christopher Schmidt, Jessica (Tim) Mechtel, CJ (Nick) Kriese, William Schmidt, and Evan Schmidt, her great-grandchildren Sawyer Mechtel, Myles Mechtel, and Lilly Mechtel, and her siblings Harley Crocker, Duane Crocker, and Jeff Crocker.

Preceding Barbara in death are her parents, her brother Al Crocker and grandson Daniel Suhl.
