Annabel Mae VanHunnik, 58, passed away on February 7, 2025, under the care of hospice at Eventide in Moorhead, Minnesota. Memorial services will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 2:00 pm at the Belmont-Karvonen Funeral Home in Henning, Minnesota with Gary VanHunnik and Larry VanHunnik officiating. The honorary pallbearers were all of Annie’s nieces and nephews. Annie was laid to rest in Bristol Cemetery in Bristol, South Dakota.
Annabel “Annie” was born on September 1, 1966, to Ludvig and Lillian (Skonseng) Hanson in Oakes, North Dakota. Later, Annie and her brother Steven were adopted by Gerrit and Lucille (Peterson) VanHunnik. Annie was baptized on June 25, 1967, at Standing Rock Church in Fort Ransom, North Dakota, and confirmed on September 26, 1982, at Vining Lutheran Church in Vining, Minnesota. She grew up in Windom, Minnesota for a short time before moving to Nebraska. In 1978, Annie and her family moved to Vining, Minnesota. Annie graduated from Henning High School with the class of 1985. She was employed at the Broen Home in Fergus Falls, Minnesota and in Arizona until 1988. Annie then attended Staples Technical College where she studied photography and graduated in 1991. She then made her home in Milaca, Minnesota. She was employed at Medtronic and TriVirix where she built medical devices. Annie retired in 2003 due to disabilities. In 2014, Annie made her home in Battle Lake, Minnesota until she resided in Moorhead, Minnesota.
Annie enjoyed fishing, camping, 4-wheeling, panning for gold and spending time with her family and friends and their children, whom she loved.
Preceding Annie in death were her biological parents: Ludvig and Lillian Hanson; adopted parents: Gerrit and Lucille VanHunnik; sister: Sandra VanHunnik; biological brother: Arnold Hanson; brother-in-law: David Paetz; and several aunts and uncles.
Annie is survived by her brothers: Herman Hanson of Florida; Gerald (Hyechae) Hanson of California; Melvin Hanson of Minnesota; Robert Hanson of North Dakota; Harold Hanson of North Dakota; Donald (Deb) Hanson of Arizona; Steve (Sara) VanHunnik of Alaska; Gary (Maxine) VanHunnik of Minnesota; Larry (Linette) VanHunnik of Nebraska; and George Hanson of California; sister: Sophie Paetz of North Dakota; Jeanne (Rollin) Johnson of North Dakota; Judy (Wayne) King of Minnesota; special friends: Edie, Amy Lou, and Carol; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; many other relatives and a host of friends.
