Alice Dagmar (Ollie) Bernu

Dagmar was born in New York Mills, MN to Arthur and Selma Ollie in 1931. She graduated from New York Mills High School in 1949. She took on the title of “bank teller’ after high school. She then met the love of her life, Ernie, and joined him in marriage in 1952. Her career path changed, becoming the Administrative Assistant at the Elder’s Home in New York Mills. Her and Ernie welcomed their daughter, Rebecca, into their lives in 1956. Being a mother was her greatest pride and joy. Besides the joy of being a parent, Dagmar also enjoyed time with family and friends. The coffee pot was always on, with a warm welcome for anyone stopping! She enjoyed antiques and auction sales with Erie and family. Her faith paid a significant role in her life. She belonged to the Church Book Club, Women’s Circle, and served as a church custodian with Ernie. She was an avid reader, exploring a wide variety of subjects. Watching the Stock Market was part of her daily ritual!

She lived the majority of her life in New York Mills. After the death of her beloved husband, Ernie, she relocated to Baxter, MN, living near her daughter, Rebecca. She transitioned from an assisted living to St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls, MN in 2017. She passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 10th, at St. Otto’s, surrounded by the love of family. She leaves behind her daughter, Rebecca; granddaughter Jennifer Thompson; grandson Jacob Beckerleg and significant other Elizabeth Jarvis: great-grandsons Riley and Jackson Thompson; nieces and nephews; and host of family and friends. She is now joyously rejoined in Heaven with Ernie, to be together forever.
