Alfred John Meyer was born on July 5, 1930 at home on the family farm in Leaf Lake Township, rural Henning, Minnesota. His parents were the late John and Anna (Haase) Meyer. Alfred attended country school in Leaf Lake Township and was confirmed in 8th grade at St. John's Lutheran Church in Ottertail, Minnesota. In 1953 he enlisted in the United States Army until his honorable discharge in 1955.
On July 5, 1969, Alfred was united in marriage to Mary Jane Doering at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wykoff, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with two children: Kevin and Heidi. Together they made their home on the family farm in Leaf Lake Township. In 1991 they sold their cattle, but continued crop farming.
Alfred was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He enjoyed reading, bowling, mowing the yard, and taking care of the farm.
On September 19, 2024 at 94 years of age Alfred passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Astera Health in Wadena, Minnesota. Preceding Alfred in death are his parents: John and Anna; sister: Rosie Olson; and brothers-in-law: Roy Olson, Warren Rector, and Chuck Perkins.
Alfred is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jane Meyer of Henning; children: Kevin Meyer of Henning; and Heidi Meyer of Edina; sisters: Lorene Rector of Austin; Irm Perkins of Henning; brother: Rev. Delbert (Jan) Meyer of New York Mills; many other relatives and a host of friends.
