Ruth Hemphill

Ruth Ann Hemphill was born on October 18, 1949 in Grand Forks, North Dakota.  Her parents are Margaret (Hodena) Hemphill and the late Robert Hemphill.  Growing up Ruth’s hair was very blonde as she was known as “Swede”.  She attended school in Buffalo, Minnesota and graduated from Escondido Union High School in San Diego, California with the class of 1970.  Living in California, Ruth enjoyed trips to Tijuana, Mexico.

In 1971 the Hemphill family made their home back in Buffalo, Minnesota where Ruth was employed at control data.  For 25 years Ruth was married to Craig Dalaska, they were married at Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo.  In 1978 they moved to Wadena where Ruth was employed at Tri-County Hospital as a Ward Secretary.  During her early years, Ruth loved to play softball, bowl, surf and deer & duck hunt.  She also enjoyed family trips to Canterbury every summer.  Since 2017, Ruth has made her home at The Meadows in Wadena. 

On June 23, 2019 Ruth passed away at her home in Wadena, Minnesota at 69 years of age.  She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.  Preceding her in death was her father, Robert Hemphill; grandson, Justin Shively and her children’s father, Craig Dalaska.

Ruth is survived by her mother, Margaret Hemphill of Wadena; daughters: Jody Grossinger of Wadena and Kris (Michael) Strzyzewski of Maple Lake; son, Eric Dalaska of New York Mills; grandchildren: Amber (Coltan) Carlen, Devin Lowers, Drake Strzyzewski, and Alyxis Strzyzewski; great-grandchilden: Justin Funk and Cameron Carlen; sisters: Judy (Dan) Cooney of Wadena; Debra (Thomas) Marquette of Wadena; Cheryl (Tedd) Elliott of Buffalo; brother, Mike (Cindy) Hemphill of Maple Grove; many other relatives and a host of friends.
