Martha Alexandra (Hentila) Miller was born on June 25, 1923 at home in Deer Creek Township, rural Deer Creek, Minnesota. Her parents were the late Matti and Alexandra (Kangas) Hentila. Martha grew up on the family farm near Heinola and attended the Leaf River Country School. During her senior year at New York Mills High School she began dating Leo Miller. Martha graduated with the class of 1943. After graduation, Martha moved to Minneapolis where she was employed with Honeywell. She and a girlfriend moved to Seattle and worked for a year at the United States Naval Air Station.
Martha returned to the New York Mills area and was employed at the General Store in Heinola. She began dating Leo again and they were united in marriage on September 30, 1946 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Parsonage in Henning, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with three children.
Martha and Leo resided, raised their family and farmed in rural Henning. In 1981 they moved to another home located on their farm property. Leo passed away on September 11, 1990. Martha continued to live there until moving into Henning in 2003. Since 2013 Martha made her home at the Henning Health Care & Rehabilitation Center. She passed away peacefully on July 9, 2018 at 95 years of age. Martha will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Preceding Martha in death were her parents; husband, Leo; brothers: Eino, William, Walter and Henry; sisters: Ella, Esther, Ida, Hilma, Mayme, Hulda and Alma.
Martha is survived by her children: Gary Miller of Racine, Wisconsin; Don (Deb) Miller of Henning; Sandi (Bob) Colaas of Chanhassen; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 4 great step-grandchildren; sister, Sylvia Fraki of Henning; many other relatives and a host of friends.
