Marie Johnson

Marie Ann (Miller) Johnson was born to the late Stanley and Margaret (Hoffer) Miller on May 30, 1939 in Wadena, Minnesota. She was raised in the Verndale area, attending country school, graduating from Verndale High School with the class of 1957. Marie was united in marriage to Donald Johnson in June 1957, and they resided in Silver Bay, Minnesota. In their 12 years of marriage, they were blessed with three children.

In 1970, Marie moved to Staples, MN and was employed with Ottertail Wadena County Head Start for over 20 years. She later moved to Wadena and worked for Mary Randorf Assisted Living in Staples and Oakridge Home in Wadena for 10 years.

After her retirement in 2004, Marie made her home in Verndale, caring for her mother. In her later years she resided in Comfort Care Cottages of Wadena and most recently St. William’s Living Center in Parkers Prairie, MN. Marie passed away peacefully on May 22, 2018 surrounded by her loving family and the gentle care of Knute Nelson Hospice at St. William’s Living Center.

For years, Marie was an active member of the Verndale Lioness. She truly enjoyed gardening, cooking, fishing, traveling and trips to the casino. Marie loved spending time with her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Preceding her in death were her parents, Stanley and Margaret Miller; sister, Linda Miller; and brother, Gary Miller.

Survived by her children: Mark (Lin) Johnson of Wadena; Sue (Kevin) Brown of Staples; Melissa Johnson (Jeff Blaha) of Sebeka; 3 grandchildren; siblings: Ben (Miriam) Miller of Bemidji; Tom (Jan) Miller of Staples; Dale (Liz) Miller of Wadena; sister-in-law, Rena Miller of Sauk Center; many other relatives and many friends.
