Marian Dertinger Obituary

Marian Dorothy (Koplin) Dertinger was born March 11, 1939 in Perham, Minnesota to Elmer and Olga (Dunker) Koplin. She was baptized at St. John’s Church in Ottertail in April of 1939 and confirmed on March 29, 1953. Marian grew up near Ottertail, Minnesota, attended school at District #160 in rural, New York Mills and St. John’s Lutheran School near Ottertail. She graduated from the New York Mills High School with the class of 1957.

She was united in marriage to Donald Dertinger on July 26, 1958 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New York Mills. Their marriage was blessed with their son, Randy. Marian was employed with the New York Mills School District as a secretary until December 1, 1962. On January 1, 1967 she began employment with Karvonen Furniture in New York Mills for 14 years, then in Perham for 11 more years. Marian and Don purchased Dertinger Evergreen in 1982 and operated it together through 2005. On April 1, 1992 she started her own business selling window treatments. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Trinity Lutheran Church from 1994 until the end of 2008. Don passed away on February 7, 2005. They lived on the Dertinger farm all their married life.

On March 13, 2018 Marian passed away at Sanford Health in Fargo, North Dakota. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Preceding Marian in death were her parents, Elmer and Olga Koplin; husband, Don; sister, Vivian (Mervin) Whetham; brothers:  Marvin, Melvin, Leonard, Jim (Rosemary),  Robert, Ralph and LeRoy; brothers & sister-in-law, Eugene (Delores) Dertinger and Maurice Dertinger.

Marian is survived by her son, Randy (Eldie) Dertinger of Alexandria; grandchildren: Lisa and Jeff; great-grandson, Blake; brothers: Tom (Sue) Koplin of Avon; sisters-in-law, Virgina Koplin of Perham; Gloria Koplin of Evansville and Marlys Flath of Perham; Dorothy (Floyd) Strehlow of Gilbert; LeVonne Dertinger of Gilbert; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
