LuAnn “Annie” Marie Johnson was born to the late Willard and Joan (Gillen) Lohse on December 15, 1953. She graduated with the Class of 1972 from Elbow Lake High School. LuAnn was united in marriage to Wesley Johnson on November 16, 1974 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Henning, MN. This marriage was blessed with a daughter, Melissa.
LuAnn was employed at the Henning Public School as a para professional for 20 years, retiring in 2006. She especially enjoyed the children on the playground, even joining them on the playground equipment at times. One day, this left her stranded at the top of the monkey bars. Annie helped Wesley build their home out of used materials. This labor of love took one and a half years to complete including many nights straightening nails for reuse. They were able to enjoy their home together for 17 years. She also volunteered at the Salvation Army. LuAnn was known for her “Sale of the Day”. It would be a random item she’d find in the store. She’d put a price on it and call it “The best thing in the store”.
The coffee was always on at the Johnson house. Annie loved to tell jokes, told the best stories, and played board games and card games like Cribbage and Rummy. She enjoyed scrapbooking and trips to the casino. Bowling was an activity LuAnn liked to participate in. She was in couple’s and women’s bowling leagues in Henning for many years. She served in the Women’s VFW Auxiliary.
LuAnn was called to her eternal resting place on April 30, 2019 at the age of 65 years. Preceding her in death were her parents, Willard and Joan Lohse; mother-in-law, Irene Johnson; father-in-law, Sam Johnson; brother, Ricky Lohse; special uncle, Loren Lohse and many other relatives including aunts and uncles.
She will be forever remembered by her loving husband, Wesley; daughter: Melissa Johnson, Duluth; sisters: Karen (John) Lund, Brandon, MN; Linda (Rick) Demuth, Mantador, ND; Kathy Anderson and significant other, Duane Ostlund, Evansville, MN; brothers: Robert (Jody) Lohse, Henning, MN; Randy (Donna) Lohse, Otsego, MN; Ronald “Ike”(Susan) Lohse, Battle Lake, MN.
