Leona Evelyn Smith was born on July 18, 1929 in Henning, Minnesota. Her parents were Arthur and Lillian (Karhoja) Curtis. Leona grew up in Inman Township and Deer Creek Township where she attended various country schools.
On January 17, 1948, Leona was united in marriage to Milton Smith. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Larry and LeRoy. Together, Leona and Milton owned and operated Smitty’s Bakery in Parkers Prairie from 1964 to 1987. After retiring in 1987, they enjoyed traveling with family and friends on bus tours. Leona also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren. Milton passed away on April 11, 2013 at 89 years of age.
Leona passed away at 89 years of age on December 15, 2018 at Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena, Minnesota. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Preceding Leona in death is her loving husband: Milton; and her brothers: Archie Curtis and Orvin (Maribelle) Curtis.
Leona is survived by her sons: Larry (Pamela) and LeRoy (Josie); grandchildren: Andy, Cari, Jason, Jennifer and Shannon; great-grandchildren: Jesse, Kalie, Daniel, Georgia, Levi, Briannia and Easton; great-great-grandchildren: Kamdyn, Oliver, Hudson and London; sisters: Norma Niemela, Shirley Nelson, Lillian Wallgren, Delores Wallgren, Erma (Curt) Natvig and Elaine (Wayne) Bachmann; brothers: Donald (Maria) Curtis; David (Carol) Curtis and Roger (Gloria) Curtis; sister-in-law, Beverly Curtis; many other relatives and a host of friends.
