Janice Jelinek

Janice Fae Jelinek was born August 6, 1938 to the late Roland and Elma (Pope) Cox in Norfolk, Nebraska. Her parents moved to Minnesota where they operated the Maple Lane Resort on East Battle Lake before eventually returning to Albion, Nebraska to farm. Janice attended school in Vining before transferring to Henning High School where she was active in choir, band and as a cheerleader. Janice moved back to Albion, Nebraska during her senior year where she graduated.

After graduating from High School, Janice moved to Lincoln where she worked in a legal office performing administrative work. She moved to St. Paul where she worked for State Farm and Univac. On April 6, 1963, she was united in marriage to Delroy Jelinek in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They moved to Pine City, Minnesota, where they owned and operated Del’s Tavern. Janice began her work as an Avon representative at this time and continued this work for many years.  In 1975 they moved to Henning, MN where they opened a clothing store before opening a gift shop called Simple Pleasures.

Janice had many interests including reading, gardening, riding her bike, fishing and baking.   She actively participated with the United Methodist Women and volunteered at the Henning Public School.

On June 15, 2019, Janice passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family and under the gentle care of Prelude Homes Memory Care in White Bear Lake, Minnesota.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Del Jelinek and many aunts and uncles.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter: Linda (Greg) Crandall; son: Anthony (Deb) Jelinek; grandchildren: Hope, Cole and Jayden; brother Richard Cox; sister Dina Eisenbraun; many other relatives and a host of friends.
