Herbert Lubitz

Herbert Herman Lubitz was born on December 6, 1922 at home in Corliss Township, rural Perham, Minnesota.  His parents were the late Herman and Bertha (Brasel) Lubitz.  Herb honorably served in the United States Navy from May 12, 1945 to July 10, 1946.  On June 15, 1948 Herb was united in marriage with Laura Ida Gropper at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Corliss Township.  Together they farmed in Corliss Township and raised their four children. 

Herb was a life member of the St. John’s where he was head usher. He enjoyed winter spear fishing, deer hunting, polka dancing, playing baseball with the Corliss Wildcats where he also umpired and was a huge fan of the game.  Herb was also the treasurer for 56 years with the Corliss Township, secretary for AAL and board member of Perham Oil. 

On January 1, 2019 Herb passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Ecumen Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota at 96 years of age.  He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Preceding Herb in death were his parents; sisters: Delores Fiedler and Evelyn Huwe; brothers: Vernon Lubitz and Elmer Lubitz; and daughter-in-law, Kim Lubitz.

Herb is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Laura Lubitz; children: Karen (Larry) Selander; Kevin (Jolene) Lubitz; Kerry (Sandy) Lubitz and Kelvin (Missy) Lubitz; 11 grandchildren: Lori Crandall, Lesa Engel, Brian Selander, Stacy Brown, Ginny Lubitz, Damien Lubitz, Amanda Lubitz, Kassandra Myers, Michaela McCracken, Alexandra Lubitz, and Andrew Lubitz; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Darlene Lubitz and Bernice Lubitz; brothers-in-law: Ralph (Maureen) Gropper and Willy Gropper; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
