Grace Messer

Grace Marie Casady was born on September 24, 1921, at home in Straight River Township, Hubbard County, rural Park Rapids, Minnesota. Her parents were the late Albert A. and Inez I. (Marshall) Casady. Grace graduated from the Teacher’s College High School in Cedar Falls, Iowa with the class of 1941. On July 13, 1941, Grace was united in marriage with Webster Emil Messer at the Calvary Baptist Church in Cedar Falls. Their marriage was blessed with five daughters. Web and Grace resided in Iowa, Massachusetts and Minnesota. In 1951 they made their home in rural Henning where they farmed and Web was also employed at the Henning High School and Grace was employed at Deckert’s Market for over 20 years.

Web and Grace’s lives centered around their family, church, school events and being part of the activities of their children and grandchildren. They enjoyed bowling, traveling, camping and volunteering at Trout Lake Camp. Grace was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church where she enjoyed playing the piano and organ. Grace was a wonderful seamstress, she loved quilting, needlepoint, knitting and crocheting.

Grace has made her home at Country Living Adult Foster Care since 2012. On May 11, 2018, Grace passed away peacefully with the gentle care of Country Living, Knute Nelson Hospice and surrounded by loved ones, at 96 years of age. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Preceding Grace in death were her parents; her husband, Web Messer, her brother, Allen Casady; her sisters: Alta Messer, Vera Hurst and Babe Thiel; and an infant great-grandson, Joshua Hubert.

               Brad (Tami) Greenwaldt, Ryan, Ellie and Blake

               Jason (Joy) Greenwaldt, Chance, Gemma, and Piper
