Gene Clifford Imsande was born on February 7, 1938 in Blowers Township, New York Mills, Minnesota to the late Clifford and Edith (Hammer) Imsande. Gene attended Sebeka High School and graduated in 1956.
On July 1, 1961 Gene was united in marriage to Sharon Tisdell at the Bluffton Catholic Church in Bluffton, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with one son, Mark. In the early days, Gene worked at the local Lund Boat Company. In 1963, the opportunity came to purchase the local gas and service station and Gene and Sharon jumped at the chance to be the owners. and for over 34 Years, Gene operated Gene’s Standard.
During the busy days of raising a family and running a business Gene, Sharon, and Mark made the time to camp, fish and hunt. After selling the station, wood working was another pleasurable hobby for Gene as he loved to design and build “well built” projects. Gene also drove a school bus for the New York Mills Public Schools for 14 years. He was an active member in the New York Mills City Council, Lions, Trinity Elders, Civic and Commerce, and on the Fire Department for 26 years.
On June 5, 2019 Gene passed away at the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, North Dakota, at the age of 81. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. Preceded Gene in death were his parents; Clifford and Edith; brother; Rodney; brother-in-law, Burt Wallgren; sister-in-law, JoEllen Crawford; brother-in-law, Bob Crawford; father & mother-in-law, Clem and Hilma Tisdell.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Sharon; son; Mark (Tammy) Imsande of Audubon; 4 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; mother, Faye Jaaska of New York Mills; sister, Darlene (Leo) Heyne of Brainerd; brother, Greg (Kim) of New York Mills; two sisters-in-laws: Becky Imsande of Alexandria; Carolyn Wallgren of New York Mills; many other relatives and a host of friends.
