Elroy Joseph Hansen was born on August 27, 1924 in Wilkin County. His parents were the late George and Dorothy (Schmidt) Hansen. He attended Country School until the eighth grade in Campbell, Minnesota. Elroy was united in marriage to Betty Tolbert on September 30, 1947 in Breckenridge, MN. Their marriage was blessed with nine children. They farmed in the Foxhome, MN area until 1955, when they moved to rural Vining, MN.
Elroy served on the Country School Board, served as Treasurer of Nidaros Township, worked at Swanson Equipment and he was also an Otter Tail County Assessor, while continuing to farm.
Elroy had a sense of humor and pure determination that got him through many hardships in life. He was a great role model to his family and friends. In his later years, he enjoyed going to the Vining Palace (his home away from home) where he met many strangers that enjoyed his jokes and became friends.
On February 22, 2019 Elroy passed away the Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls, Minnesota at 94 years of age. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Preceding Elroy in death were his wife, Betty in 1994, his parents and several siblings.
Elroy is survived by his children: Rich (Pat) Hansen of Stewart; BJ (Virgil) Waasdorp of Fergus Falls; Jim Hansen of Agate Colorado; Dorothy (Andy) Suchy of Henning; Annette (Rick) Stejskal of Wilmington, DE; Doug (Sue) Hansen of Dalton; Dennis Hansen of Dighton, KS; Don (Sandy) Hansen of Vining; and Jacki Maethner (Dean Jorud) of Battle Lake; grandchildren: Steven, Curtis, Dustin Hansen, Tony (Renae) Suchy, Mike Hansen, Christopher and Amanda Stejskal, Travis (Nicole) Hansen, Katie (Jesse) Laugen, Jenna (Jon) Eaton, Becca (Dylan Barry) Hansen, Lydia, John, Katherine and Monica Hansen, Cassie (Dane) Holo, Emmy (Josh) Stock, Samantha Jorud and Nikki Jorud; 16 great-grandchildren; special friend, Alice Heinis; brother, Harold (Christine) Hansen of Alaska; sister-in-law, Addie Hansen of Fergus Falls; sister-in-law, Lois Schempp of Breckenridge; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
