Elna Elizabeth Werronen was born on August 1, 1933 in Finlayson, Minnesota. Her parents were the late August John and Helmi Elizabeth (Kero) Werronen. Elna grew up on the family farm and attended country school in rural Finlayson. She made her home in Minneapolis where she was employed with Munsingwear. On July 31, 1954 Elna was united in marriage with Harley William Tumberg at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Finlayson, Minnesota. Elna and Harley made their home in New York Mills where they farmed and raised their family. Elna was employed with the New York Mills School District #553 where she drove school bus for over 20 years.
Elna enjoyed knitting, crocheting, embroidery, cake decorating and volunteered at the Red Cross. On May 16, 2018 Elna passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family and the gentle care of Knute Nelson Hospice at 84 years of age. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Preceding Elna in death were her parents; son, Gerry; husband, Harley; sisters: Edith, Elaine, Olga, Aili and Mae; brothers: Leonard, Eino and Edward.
Elna is survived by her daughters: Lynelle Salo of International Falls; Janell (John) Coumbe of Auckland, New Zealand; sons: Terry (Barb) Tumberg of Wadena; Bryan (Norma) Tumberg of New York Mills and Jon (Kathy) Tumberg of New York Mills; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; exchange students: Akiko (Satoshi) Suzuki, and son, Gaku; Sachiko (Toshi) Toki and son, Yori; brother, Loyde Johnson of Pine City; many other relatives and a host of friends.
