Edward Torjus Langlie was born at home in Molin Township, rural Glyndon, Minnesota to the late Torjus and Catharina (Anstandt) Langlie. As a young boy the Langlie Family traveled to Texas to spend the winter months. In 1940 they made their home in Dent where Ed has resided his entire life. He was employed by his future father-in-law at the local Standard Gasoline Station. This is where he met his future bride, Gracie Marie Eckert.
On June 11, 1953 Edward was united in marriage with Gracie at the St. Henry’s Parish House. Together they made their home in Dent as their marriage was blessed with 8 children. Ed was employed with Dent Co-op Creamery for 14 years, owned and operated Langlie’s Hartz Store 4 years. After selling the store he went to work for H & H Milk Hauling and he continued to drive milk truck for 11 more years. Then he delivered feed for Dent Equity Mill for 28 years.
Ed was a past member of the Dent Volunteer Fire Department where he served 1 year as Chief. He always enjoyed pulling an old tractor or car from the brush pile and restoring them to working order.
On January 19, 2020 Ed passed away peacefully at Perham Living at 90 years of age. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Preceding Ed in death were his parents: Torjus and Catharina Langlie; Gracie’s parents, Harold & Clara Eckert; daughter-in-law, Penne Langlie; grandson Kevin Langlie; sisters and brothers-in-law: Mabel (Sig) Hanson; Ella (Olaf) Henjum, Violet (Jack) Combs; sister-in-law, Betty Niehaus and her husbands, Luvern Niehaus and Al Niehaus; nephews: Doug Niehaus; Sonny Hanson; nieces: Cathy (Combs) Abercrombie; Sandy (Langlie) Ostby and Carol (Hanson) Peterson.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Gracie Langlie; children: Mike Langlie of Dent; Steve (Janet) Langlie of Richville; Tom Langlie of Dent; Bob (Teri) Langlie of Dilworth; Jim (Sue) Langlie of Dent; Don (Michelle) Langlie of East Grand Forks; Mary (Keith) Bauman of Dent; Janell (Eric) Gibble of Perham; 24 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; many other relatives and a host of friends.
