Duane Moench

On August 11, 1934, Duane Moench was born to Fred and Jennie (Berry) Moench in New York Mills, Minnesota. He attended school in Battle Lake, MN and later enlisted in the U.S. Army. Duane was united in marriage to Gisela Mülhaupt on December 31, 1960. Their marriage was blessed with five children.

Duane and Gisela raised their family in Wadena. He was one of first Master Plumbers in the area. He owned and operated his own heating and plumbing business before he adventured into a career of heavy equipment operation. Duane then started his business of Moench Excavating.

Duane enjoyed having fun, spending time with his children and family, tinkering & of course work! He was always known to push the limits. Duane was a life member of the Elmer Goche V.F.W. Post 3922 of Wadena, MN and a member of Wadena Elks. 

On Sunday, June 30, 2019 Duane entered eternal rest at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, at the age of 84. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and all his friends. Preceded in death by his parents; son Michael Duane; wife Becky; siblings: Phyllis Hassa; Verle “Bud” Moench; Lois Frey; Cecil Moench; Fred “Fritz” Moench; Lyle Moench; Joy Murch; Virgil Moench; Ruby Olson; Lou Fern; Darrell Moench; LaVonne Erickson; Mardelle Ginette and Loel Moench.

Left to remember his memories are children: Carol Moench of Jacksonville, North Carolina; Heidi (Todd) Lockaby of Ottertail; Michelle (Brian) Richter of Verndale; Duane (Jillian) Moench of Wadena; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; siblings: Gordon Moench, Ramon Moench; numerous other relatives and many friends.
