Donald “Don” Age Zylstra was born on May 20, 1944 in Oude Bildt Zyl. Friesland, Netherlands. His parents were the late Foppe “Frank” and Ynskje Zuster (Faber) Zylstra. Don and his family moved to the United States in 1955 where they settled in Sussex County, New York. Donald graduated from Newton High School with the class of 1961.
In 1973 Donald was united in marriage to Cindy Kasma in Crystal, Minnesota. Don and Cindy made their home in Cochecton, New York where they farmed with Don’s father Frank. They enjoyed traveling the world where they adopted their loving children in Romania and South Korea. He was employed as a dairy farmer and served as a commodity person at Sullivan Co Farm Bureau for at least 25 years. Don retired from farming in 2004 and they made their home in New York Mills. Cindy passed away at home on December 21, 2009.
Preceding Donald in death were his parents; step-mother: Tryntje “Tine”; wife: Cindy; and infant daughter: Sara; brother, James Zylstra.
Donald is survived by his daughters: Rodica Zylstra of Pompana Beach, Florida; Ramona Zylstra of New York Mills; Gabriela Zylstra of New York Mills; son: Adam Zylstra of Bluffton; grandchild: Tristan Bunker; sisters: Frances Kuipers of Williamsburg, Virginia; Edith Ervey of Byram, New Jersey; brother: John Zylstra of Johnson, New York; and many other relatives and a host of friends.
