Charles "Chuck" Schmidt

Charles Oswald Schmidt was born on February 21, 1952 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota. His parents were the late Edward and Genevieve (Minette) Schmidt.  Chuck grew up on the family farm in Sauk Centre. When he was 14 the family moved to St. Paul, Minnesota.  He graduated with the Class of 1970 from North St. Paul High School. After graduating, Chuck proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. On December 23, 1988 Chuck was united in marriage to Gayle Marie Papenfuss in Milbank, South Dakota. Together they made their home in Wadena as Chuck was employed as a black topper in Elk River.  During the winter months Chuck enjoyed ice fishing and cutting wood.  He especially loved the time babysitting and watching his grandchildren grow up.

On March 29, 2018 Chuck passed away surrounded by his loving family at St. Cloud Hospital at 66 years of age.  He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.  Preceding Chuck in death were his parents, Edward and Genevieve.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 29 years Gayle Schmidt of Wadena; 2 daughters: Jamie (Ty) Adams of Oylen and Novia Schmidt of Wadena; 2 sons: Brian (Lisa) Koons of Baldwin, Wisconsin and Adam Koons of Harrels, North Carolina; 15 grandchildren; 6 sisters: Evelyn Dahmen of Pierz; Rose Dyer of Euless, Texas; Kathleen (Bill) Koehn of Upsala; Geneva (Jerry) Pesta of Long Prairie; Marie (Ed) Wiegele of Marcelle; Margie Wiener of Long Prairie;  3 brothers: Jim (Gail) Schmidt of Long Prairie; Donny (Jan) Schmidt of Long Prairie and Ed (Diana) Schmidt of Sartell; many other relatives and a host of friends.

Pallbearers: Mike Wiener, Ed Wiegele, Jr., Chad Bosl, Dane Bosl, Bill Brady and Brad Lehmann

Honorary Pallbearers: Bob Olson, Loren Karnes, Dewey Burdick, Russ Burdick, Arnie Blaskowski and Mike Harlow.
