Charles D. Jorud, Sr.

January 31, 1937 ~ October 30, 2018 (age 81)

Charles David Jorud Sr. was born January 31, 1937 near Battle Lake, Minnesota where he grew up on the family farm and attended school.  He was baptized and confirmed at Eagle Lake Lutheran Church in Battle Lake. Charles was united in marriage to Elaine Bjerketvedt on May 5, 1959. In 1960, Charles and Elaine moved to Henning, MN where they made their home and raised their family.

Charles joined the Army in 1955 and served at Fort Benning, Columbus, Georgia.  Charles continued to serve in the Army Reserves until 1965.  Charles had several jobs throughout his lifetime including Boeing Airlines in California as well as the Thiel Feed Mill, Trites Associate and Doolittle’s Consumer Oil. He served on the Henning Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he was a member of the board for many years. 

Charles was an excellent mechanic and loved working on old cars and tractors, a trait he passed on to several of his kids and grandkids.  He attended the Dalton and Rollag Threshing Reunions for many years. He also bowled on the Henning bowling league with his wife.  Charles loved his wife, Elaine, and his family and was always very proud of his children and grandchildren.  “Grandpa” was always available for advice on how to fix something that needed fixing.

Charles entered eternal rest on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Tri-County Health Care in Wadena, Minnesota. Preceded in death by his parents: Andy and Laura Jorud; brothers:  Floyd Jorud and Chester Jorud; and sister, Joyce Johansson.

Lovingly remembered by his wife: Elaine (Bjerkevedt) Jorud; his four children:  Charles (Amy) Jorud, Jr. of Plymouth, MA; Michael (Cindy) Jorud of Barnsville; Kim (Curt) Haugen of Henning; James (Lynn) Jorud of Sartell; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, with two great-grandchildren expected; many other relatives and friends.
