Betty Hermanson Obituary

Betty Mae Fiskum was born on June 25, 1926 at home in Folden Township, Vining, Minnesota. Her parents were the late Oscar and Ruth (Olson) Fiskum. She was baptized and confirmed at Folden Lutheran Church. Betty grew up on the family farm and attended country school at District #209 in Folden Township. She graduated from Henning High School with the class of 1945. On October 19, 1946 Betty was united in marriage to Roy Norman Hermanson at the Trinity Lutheran Parsonage in Henning. Betty and Roy made their home in Henning, where Betty was employed as a teacher's aide and then secretary at Henning School. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, James and Robert.

Betty and Roy loved spending Saturday nights with family and friends where they would go out dancing at the area dance halls. This interest carried into the recent years where Betty would enjoy watching Dancing with the Stars on TV. She enjoyed gardening, as well as crocheting. She made many potholders and afghans for her family and friends. She enjoyed making flatbread with Aunt Tillie and also made lefse. During the holidays she would make her specialty, krumkake. Shopping was another favorite pastime for Betty. She enjoyed going over to Fergus Falls, stopping at Herberger's to pick out some new clothes. Betty enjoyed selling Avon, including a stint when the boys were young, and again after retiring from school. Roy passed away February 14, 2004.

After a few years on her own at the house, she made her home at Willow Creek Senior Living, and then more recently at the nursing home in Henning. She enjoyed visiting and having a cup of coffee with family and friends, but the times she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were always considered a blessing. On March 2, 2018 Betty passed away peacefully at the Henning Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Henning at 91 years of age. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Preceding Betty in death were her husband, Roy, her parents, Oscar and Ruth Fiskum, her two sons, Jim Hermanson and Bob Hermanson, her brother Russell Fiskum, and her sister Doris Rapp.

Betty is survived by her loving family: daughters-in-law, Diane Hermanson and Cindy Hermanson; four grandchildren: Jake (Sheila) Hermanson, Jesse Hermanson, Amy (Beau) Wohlwend and Randy (Margo Munsterman) Hermanson; seven great-grandchildren: Kole, Haylee, Jaelyn, Brielle, and Brinley Wohlwend, Ella and Ava Hermanson; two brothers: Dale (Lois) Fiskum and Jerry (May) Fiskum; sisters-in-law: Carol Fiskum and Eleanor "Toots" Lundby; many other relatives and a host of friends.
