Alden Elmer Selander was born December 21, 1936 in Homestead Township, rural New York Mills, Minnesota to Arnold and Anna (Maasch) Selander. Alden was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Blowers Township, rural Sebeka. He attended Country School District #179 in Homestead Township, and later New York Mills High School, graduating with the class of 1954.
On April 18, 1970, Alden was united in marriage to Noreen Brasel. Their marriage was blessed with five children. Alden worked on area farms, and then Mills Farmers Elevator, retiring in 1999. He enjoyed gardening, camping, bird watching, crossword puzzles, and fishing with his kids. After Alden brought Noreen to work every day, he enjoyed his morning coffee stops at Eagles Café.
Alden passed away at Perham Health, Perham, Minnesota on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 with his loving family by his side. He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends. Preceding Alden in death are his parents, infant brother Leroy, sisters: Millie (Ben) Polk and Merle (Bob) Marden; brother-in-law, Phil Marden, and sister-in-law Darlene Selander.
Alden is survived by his wife, Noreen; daughter: Stacy (Joe) Vaden; sons: Kyle (Judy) Selander; Brent (Kasee) Selander; Terry (Stephanie) Selander; and Erik (Arlene) Selander; 24 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters: Dorothy (Wally) Krantz; and Carol Marden; brothers: Howard (Lucille); Maurice; and Wayne (Donna); many other relatives and a host of friends.
